May 30 - June 7, 2007 - Berkeley and Santa Barbara

This was a whirlwind trip to California from May 30 to June 4 doing some babysitting for Ben (3 years) and Theo (10 months) in Berkeley.  Mark was out of town and Laurie could use the help.  With two grandchildren it's hard to get a good photo for the grandparents (notice that it took a dozen shots to get one good one).  Then we headed to LAX for a drive to Santa Barbara to see Kevin and his girlfriend, Laurie, an artist.  We hadn't seen their house since they moved in.  The Asian photos are from the Santa Barbara Art Museum, and the beach was near the University where Kevin works with a small team of fellow Microsoft mathematicians.  We were lucky and had good weather for the entire trip.  Click on any photo to enlarge it.

June 20 - July 20, 2006 - Berkeley, California

This was definitely the highlight of our year.  Our daughter Laura and her husband Mark were expecting their second child, Theo, on July 2, and asked us to come baby sit our other grandson, Ben, during the labor and delivery.  Theo was a little reluctant to come out, so he didn't show up until July 14 - at 9 lbs, 11 ozs, and 22" long!  Although labor was not easy, it was short - two hours, and the family returned home from the hospital the next day.  At the first part of the trip, our eldest son, Kevin, came to San Francisco to run the Double Dipsea race, a grueling race  (13.7 miles, but it's about 4400 feet up and the same going down).  These photos, although not labeled yet, show Kevin's run, our time in Berkeley, and wonderful days of playing with Ben, followed by some of new baby Theo.
